There are basically two different types of memory loss that you can experience: sudden shortterm memory lossand long term memory loss. Sudden shortterm memory lossis much more common and basically refers to a condition where you experience subtle forgetfulness but regain it back after a period of time.

Forgetfulness during pregnancy for instance is commonly referred to as sudden shortterm memory lossbecause the woman will typically regain her full memory once she has had the baby and is no longer pregnant.

Sudden shortterm memory lossis a term that can also refer to the loss of memory of more recent experiences. For instance if you can remember ten years ago but have trouble forgetting what you did last week or even the same morning, then you are suffering from short term memory loss.

 How to Overcome it

Even sudden shortterm memory losscan be frustrating and hard to deal with. There are certain things that you can do in order to overcome your memory loss problems however. The first thing that anyone experiencing any sort of memory problems should do is consult with their doctor. This is important because by doing a few simple tests your doctor will be able to determine whether or not something more serious is at play.

Sudden shortterm memory lossis, after all, often an early warning sign of Alzheimer’s or a related form of dementia, and so at least by finding something like this out earlier on you will be aware sooner and will be able to get the proper treatment.

You should also understand that short term memories are stored in the brain for only a few minutes with minimal processing, and the short term memory system is naturally limited in terms of the number of items that it can hold. This is why people who are busier in their day to day lives often tend to forget more, because they are overloading the short term memory area of the brain, an area which is only able to hold so much at a time.

You should also quit any unhealthy habits that you may have particularly smoking and excessive alcohol drinking. Both of these can cause short and long term memory loss, and have a negative effect on your well-being in general.

Sudden shortterm memory losscan be dealt with as long as you take the proper steps and take your health seriously into consideration.
