6 Tips to Stop Depression

Finding yourself depressed can happen at any time of the year although for some of us holidays are the worst for sufferers. All of us feel sad at times and how we can identify symptoms of depression, know what to do about them and stop depression is the goal of this short article. We should never ignore this feeling of sadness. It is universal and part of our world. It is expressed in our music and movies. If the feeling of sadness becomes crushing, then it is essential to seek professional help. However, there are several ways to help yourself feel better and we discuss some of them here.

1. The old adage, laughing is the best medicine is certainly true. It is incredible how, if you are depressed, releasing stress by laughing, will make you feel much more cheerful.

2. Music has the ability to calm the nerves and help to overcome depression. If you can simply let go and allow your favorite music drift over you will find that you calm down and feel better. All of us respond to music. You may get the feeling that you want to get on your feet and dance and that’s a good feeling - even if you don’t have a partner! Simply dance to the music and let your stresses disappear as your move.

3. Do something active.  The whole point is to make yourself get out and do something to move your body! Maybe playing with the kids in the yard, or riding your bike around your neighborhood and saying Hi to the local kids. A lot of people realise that the natural world can help to defeat depression. Quietly watching a beautiful sunset or walking on the beach can be a great pick me up.

4. If possible try to lend a hand to someone who is less well-off than you are. One way is to volunteer at a local hospital or institution which can also help you realise how lucky you actually are. Count your blessings.

5. Doing productive activities will always make you feel better. Try to think positively about your life and the things you have been given and try not to think too much about the troubles. Take your dog for a walk and savor your pet’s love of life. Sometimes straightforward undemanding affection may be enough to conquer those blue feeling.

6. Pamper yourself! All of us know that indulging in something we love may make us feel better. When I’m sad chocolate will make me feel better. Yes it is temporary but it does help. Or indulge in a massage or manicure. Feel looked after and special!

Needless to say, all these suggestions does not apply to us all. But give some of them a try and you may be surprised how they can help. keep these suggestions in mind and the next time you are feeling a little down, find something that gives you the best response to get you to feel happy again. Know that depression tends to creep in so you will have to prevent it overwhelming you by taking action.
